Bill joined the United States Army in August 1974 and subsequently served 6 years active duty, 7 years Army National Guard and Army Reserve and then finished his military career with 7 years in the United States Navy Reserve. Bill and his wife Fay were married in November 1974. Fay served 22 years in the United States Navy Reserve retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. Bill then served in law enforcement in Oklahoma for 15 years.
Bill began his legal career in 1995 after graduating from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. After a year in private practice in Seminole, Oklahoma, Bill was employed as an Assistant District Attorney in Ottawa County in September 1996. In January 1999, Bill was appointed as a Special Judge for Ottawa County where he served until his retirement in January 2020.
